What can go in the green bin?

All your compostable cups, lids and packaging and any type of food scrap (e.g. leftover, spoiled or out-of-date food) can go into your BioPak Compost Service green bin. This includes: fruit and vegetable peels/scraps, meat and seafood scraps/bones, egg shells, dairy products (cheese, yoghurt etc.), bread, pasta, rice, cereal, coffee grounds/chaff, tea bags, out-of-date food (processed or fresh), confectionery, processed food and, of course, BioPak's certified compostable packaging. Only use compostable bin liners if you must (bags are not required for the service).

Composting is the future

Composting is a proven solution and part of the existing recycling infrastructure that will be further developed to process the seven million tonnes of organic waste currently being landfilled. Councils across Australia and New Zealand are investing in their residential compost collection. Recovering and composting waste disposed of in the general waste bins would result in the diversion of 60 percent of the general waste ending up landfill, including BioPak compostable packaging. It’s the co-mingled, one-bin, circular economy solution that Australia and New Zealand need right now.

What is commercial composting?

A commercial compost facility optimises the process of rapid biodegradation of organic material to high quality, toxic-free compost by controlling conditions like shredding material to the same size or controlling the temperature and oxygen levels. All our compostable packaging has been certified to biodegrade within 120 days in a commercial compost environment – resulting in nutrient-rich soil. Compost Connect has partnered with commercial compost facilities and waste collection services all around Australia and New Zealand, to provide the missing link to customers in the area.
